Following the publication of the tables, THS Headmistress, Sarah Matthews, said: “I am delighted that THS was again recognised as leading in terms of how we allow the girls to develop and grow academically through dedicated teaching, a focussed learning environment and enriching opportunities.

THS was one of a number of high profile schools to withdraw from the independent school academic league tables last year, making the point that the culture of comparison was unhelpful and potentially damaging to wellbeing.

Mrs Matthews said: “We celebrate all our students and not just those who achieve the very highest grades. As teachers, we know that some girls may move Heaven and Earth to increase from a D to a B and we want them to know that they are just as important to us as those who achieve A*s across the page. Our girls are individuals and it is by treating them as such that we ensure they all receive a first-class education that will stretch and challenge them, prepare them for bright futures and ignite their lifelong love of learning. We teach our girls to compare themselves only to their previous selves and track personal growth, as this is the only empowering measure they need as a measure of success.”
