More than 500 people packed into the Cathedral for an evening of festive song and worship.

The widely used ‘Nine Lessons and Carols’ format, upon which the service was based, was devised by the school’s founder Bishop, Edward White Benson, in Truro in 1880. He went on to become Archbishop of Canterbury.

It was a particularly special evening for the top all-girls independent school which this year celebrates 140 years since its founding.

The Prep, Senior and Chamber Choirs alongside the Flute Ensemble and a number of soloists took part in the prestigious service which included readings from girls of all ages.

Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Matthews said: “What a glorious start to the festive season! It was an incredibly special service with beautiful singing and it was fantastic to share it with so many people who came last week. It’s wonderful to be in a place where the whole community can come together to mark the start of Advent and celebrate the school’s foundation.”
