Taking place on Friday 27 September, ‘The Cambodia Challenge’ will see students of all ages working as a team to achieve the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest, swimming the Channel and running from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

It’s all in support of UK-based education charity, Edukid and aims to raise funds for a village in Cambodia to enable as many children as possible to attend school there.

Girls are being encouraged to raise £20 through sponsorship pledges – the amount it takes to send a child in Cambodia to school for a month.

Deputy Head, Miss Deb Freeman said: “We hope the girls will embrace the opportunity to reach their target and have the satisfaction of knowing what a difference each and every one of them can make to a Cambodian child’s life. Every penny raised will go to support children in the school with which we are working.”

Parents are also being invited to get involved and can join the girls on the day at 2pm either to cheer on them on or to join them walking or running around the track.

Keen walkers and runners are also invited to help the girls reach their target so please do email us at events@trurohigh.co.uk with how many miles you cover on your usual walks and runs between Monday and Friday next week. It’s a massive 874 miles to cover and we would really appreciate your help in racking up the miles!

Senior students will have the opportunity to find out more about the work Edukid undertakes in Cambodia during their midweek PSHE lessons. As part of this session, students from Year 7 – 13 are being asked to bring in an old shirt or t-shirt which they will customise to illustrate why education is important to them. Girls can decorate these however they choose and should provide their own materials to do so.

Prep School pupils who would like to decorate a t-shirt will have the option to do so at a lunchtime session held during the fundraising week.

Those who wish, can enter their garment into a competition where prizes will be awarded to the most original and most creative shirts. Entry costs £1 which will be donated to Edukid.

The school’s Sixth Formers are also inviting people to donate their loose and unwanted change in their ‘Coins for Cambodia’ Appeal. If your family would like to donate any coins or coppers to the appeal please send them in with your daughter to add to our massive map of Cambodia, which will be located in the school foyer from Monday 23 September.

Funds raised during the week will be presented to Truro High’s Cambodian partner school, Brasat Primary, which a number of students from Years 11, 12 and 13 visited this summer.
