Sixth Former Hannah, from St Agnes, has been selected to represent Cornwall at the Swim England National County Team Championships this October.

This is the third county call-up for the Sixth Former who will be fighting out it against the UK’s top swimmers in the 16/17 Years 100m Breaststroke.

Hannah’s call-up came after she was ranked 1st in the county in the 100m Breaststroke for her age group. Her impressive time of 1 minute 17 seconds is the fastest achieved in Cornwall this year by some margin.

She proudly won Gold in both the 100m and 200m Breaststroke when she achieved this time at the Cornwall County Swimming Championships earlier this year. Even more impressive, Hannah competed in the Open Women’s category despite only being 15 at the time.

Hannah said: “I can’t wait. The atmosphere last year was amazing. Everyone was honking horns and waving flags, it’s so much fun. I really hope that I get selected again next year.”

The championships are well-known for being a vibrant competitive event which sees more than 900 swimmers compete from over 40 counties in Sheffield every year.

Hannah is now busy preparing to compete on the national stage training for up to 2 hours around 3 to 4 times a week. She currently swims with Truro SC and balances this rigorous training schedule with her A Levels.

It’s a busy time for the Sixth Former who has also just passed her surf lifeguard qualification training with flying colours. Once she has completed a number of voluntary sessions, Hannah will be able to take up a role keeping Cornwall’s beach lovers and holiday makers safe so you may well see her keeping a keen eye on the county’s shores next summer.
