Against over 50 entries, Lucy and Alina swept the honours board in the competition winning silver and gold for their efforts.

As a result of her success, Alina’s work will even be judged against the top pieces from across the region.

The contest called on entrants to take a photo inspired by ‘The Beauty of Nature’ and attracted numerous entries from across the local area.

Head of Creative and Performing Arts, Mrs Judith Tutin said: “Competitions like this are a fantastic way to celebrate the talent of the county’s young artists and we always encourage our girls to get involved. This kind of success is a real honour and gives students a confidence boost in their creativity. I am incredibly proud of Alina and Lucy – they represent the artistic talent we have amongst girls right from Prep School to Sixth Form.”

Keen for many more girls to match their success, the school is encouraging students to take part in the forthcoming art competition being hosted by St Ives School of Painting.

The competition is open to those from ages 13-18 and challenges artists to submit their five best works to the prestigious art school. Drawings, paintings, photography, mixed media, print-making, video and textiles can all be entered. The deadline for entries is Sunday 24 February at midnight.

Selected artworks will be exhibited for a week at the prestigious Penwith Gallery in St Ives, home of the Penwith Society founded by famous artists like Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. Roy Ray, local artist and the ex-Director of School of Painting will be selecting the artworks.
