Over the last month, the school’s budding vets, dentists and medical practitioners have been learning essential life-saving skills with the school’s nurse, Dawn, as part of this accredited course.
The sessions offered students the chance to gain an invaluable qualification, which covers basic lifesaving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations.
From learning how to manage an emergency situation to administering CPR, the girls really stepped up to the challenge and all passed with flying colours.
They can now act as a qualified emergency first aider for an employer providing indispensable skills required for any business to run safely. More importantly, the girls gained the knowledge and confidence to administer first aid and basic life support – an invaluable life skill.
Nurse Dawn said: “In all our lives, whether at work, home or play, it is essential that we know how to assist someone who is sick or has been injured. The girls were quick to learn, genuinely interested and showed signs of becoming excellent future medics.”
The course was staged as part of the school’s comprehensive Aspiring Medics Programme. The bespoke programme offers students, wishing to further their studies in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science, a tailored calendar of lectures, workshops, mentoring and one-to-one support to support their application into their chosen branch of medicine.
It’s a busy time for the school’s medical minds who will next month welcome the only touring interactive surgical experience in the UK for a special one-day course. Operating Theatre Live will give students the chance to follow an in-depth medical course, set in a ‘mobile operating theatre’.
The workshop is open to all those from Year 9 – Year 13. It provides the perfect broad base for those studying sciences at GCSE and is also ideal for those A Level students considering applying for university to study medicine, dentistry, health courses or the biosciences.
