One of the main prizes for winning this countywide charity competition, young artists from across Cornwall spent the afternoon exploring the amazing things that happen when art meets science.

Having scooped three top-level prizes and eleven honorary commendations, there were also quite a few of our girls amongst the crowd.

Students took part in a huge range of inter-disciplinary activities under the expert guidance of our Head of Creative and Performing Arts, Mrs Judith Tutin. These included creating blueprints, drawing with pipettes and even the chance to get hands-on with photography in our darkroom.

Year 12 Holly was also on hand to offer her help and advice to the students. The Sixth Former plans to run workshops like this as part of her Gold Arts Award and is busy planning the next one already.

It’s an exciting time for these young artists who, as a result of the competition, saw their artwork on show at the Tate St Ives last month.

The competition was open to all schools in Cornwall and for children from Reception up to Year 9. It received over 700 entries inspired by the theme of “What Makes Me Happy”.

Young Art Cornwall is an exciting new project which aims to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens. Truro High was the competition’s supporting school.
