Against tough competition from Truro School, the team put in an impeccable performance winning the county final with a resounding 9-2 victory.
It’s an exciting time for the school’s under 16s who will be flying the flag for Cornwall and the South West in the national Tier 3 Championship finals this February.
The trophy is the latest addition to Truro High’s growing collection of hockey accolades which includes eight hockey county champion titles.
The school’s Director of Sport, Ms Kat Barbery-Redd said “I am extremely proud of the achievements of all the girls both as a team and individually. They all work incredibly hard especially the huge number who attend many hours of training with local, regional and national teams on top of all the extra coaching sessions we offer at school. The experiences our players get from a range of top level coaches really help them refine their game and mentally prepare for hockey at the highest levels and it’s fantastic to see their hard work rewarded.”
This latest success comes as a trio of Truro High sisters received the news that they will all play hockey for their country amongst the ranks of the UK Lions National Squads.
12-year-old Emma, from Penzance, impressed the national assessors and coaches at the UK Festival of Hockey leading to her claiming one of the sought-after spots to represent her country with the under 14 squad.
She joins her twin sisters Katie and Lucy who received the England call-up last January and currently play for the UK Lions under 16 squad.
36 out of nearly 150 of the country’s top sportswomen were selected from regional teams to play for the under 14 squad.
Over the next twelve months she will compete in tournaments in Eindhoven and Belfast. Katie and Lucy will also be representing their country in Belfast this summer.
