Even more impressive, the team didn’t lose a single match throughout the entire regional tournament.

As a result of their success, the school’s players will now be flying the flag for Cornwall and the South West in the national Tier 3 Championship finals next February.

The team began the tournament with high expectations and started as they meant to go on with a confident 1-0 victory against The Maynard School. Encouraged by their success they went on to win 5-1 against Hereford Cathedral School and 3-1 against Clayesmore School taking them through to the semi-finals.

With goals coming from all members of the team, another confident 3-1 against Wycliffe College secured their place in the final playing against The Maynard School once again.

A challenging start to the match spurred on the team leading to two goals in quick succession by Year 10 twins Lucy and Katie. 13-year-old Milly was on fine form in goal and put in an impressive performance against players significantly older than herself.

Despite a last minute goal from The Maynard, team captain Vivienne rallied her players who held out for a well-deserved 2-1 victory earning their place in the national Tier 3 finals.

Director of Sport, Ms Kat Barbery-Redd said: “It was a very long day of high quality hockey and I am so proud of the efforts from the entire squad. Every player stepped up and gave it their absolute all – I’m delighted that their hard work has been rewarded!”

The team will now fight it out against the country’s top Tier 3 teams for the national trophy next year and are already hard at work on the pitch preparing.

The Tier 3 Championships are open to ‘emerging school’ teams which do not frequently supply hockey players to regional and national squads.

The trophy is the latest addition to Truro High’s growing collection of hockey accolades which also includes seven hockey county champion titles.
