The Truro High U18 hockey team added the final title to their collection this week marking a clean sweep for school’s teams who are now county champions for U11s, U12s, U13s, U14s and U15s as well.

The team took the title after winning 7-3 against Truro School and 4-1 against Truro College.

It’s the second county championship win for the team who also hold the U18 Indoor Cornwall title.

This latest success comes as experts from the Youth Sport Trust warn that a lack of physical activity among girls is leading to poor mental health and low aspirations.

“There is a direct correlation between girls’ future life chances and the amount of physical activity they do in their younger years,” Chris Wright, head of wellbeing at the Youth Sport Trust told The Independent earlier this year.

“Quite often high-flying businesswomen talk about being very involved in sport when they were younger. Doing sport as children appears to help girls feel empowered and able to achieve things.”

Aware of the value sport adds to every student’s education, Truro High School offers a wide and varied programme of sporting activity designed to stretch and challenge even the most able.

This week the School announced the launch of its brand-new Elite Sports Pathway programme which offers one-to-one mentoring in order to help its sportswomen manage their busy schedules playing for regional and national teams.
