The 18-year-old pianist’s musical talent has been recognised by ABRSM, having passed their newly launched ARSM Recital exam with flying colours.

The ARSM exam represents the next step on from Grade 8 – a standard which is usually only reached by students at degree level.

Over the Easter holidays, Karen was delighted to attend an international diploma awards ceremony to celebrate the successes of talented young musicians from Hong Kong and Macau.

ABRSM leaders were in attendance to congratulate award winners alongside the Executive Director of Global Operations of ABRSM, Tim Arnold.

ABRSM exams are recognised worldwide as the gold standard in musical assessment and Karen was thrilled to receive her award, which confirms her place in a growing global community of teachers and learners.

This isn’t the first time the young pianist has gained qualifications at this level. This time last year Karen was jumping for joy when she gained top marks in the Trinity College London Diploma in Piano Recital.

The young musician scored an impressive 85 out of 100 marks gaining a Distinction in this exam. The ATCL piano recital is an Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation level four qualification equivalent to the standard reached at the end of the first year of an undergraduate degree.

Karen’s fantastic success follows an exciting year for the young musician which has seen her take home a sought-after commendation in the CreatEd Awards at Falmouth University as well as performing at a whole host of prestigious events alongside her A Level studies. A real team player, Karen also regularly performs with our Senior School Orchestra alongside her other musical commitments.
