The Sixth Former has been offered a provisional place to read veterinary science at Bristol University.
There are currently only eight veterinary schools in the UK and, with thousands applying for these sought-after places, admissions are extremely competitive. Students have around a one in fourteen chance of acceptance per application to study health sciences at Bristol.
Eliza said: “It was pretty nerve-wracking when I got the email from UCAS and I couldn’t believe it when I saw the offer. Being a vet is all I’ve ever wanted to do since we moved to a farm when I was six. My parents are absolutely over the moon – they’ve been by my side throughout the whole process – and I am so excited.”
With the competition for places so fierce, Eliza has made sure to stand out from the crowd and undertaken a huge programme of work experience placements ranging from working with small animals at Highertown Vets in Truro to assisting an international event rider as a groom and heading behind the scenes at GlaxoSmithKline research facilities.
Eliza said that the school’s Aspiring Medics Programme has also proven invaluable in helping her explore the huge range of careers and specialisms she can undertake with a veterinary degree. She hopes to work with farm animals, specifically cattle, and already has a great deal of experience of life in the yard looking after her horse, Thomas.
The budding vet is already on track to making her career aspirations a reality having last summer achieved an A* in her Maths A Level a year ahead of schedule.
Once the results of the bulk of her A Level exams are available in August, Eliza hopes to be joining the elite few studying at the veterinary school which counts more than 88% of its research as internationally world leading or excellent.
The university of Bristol is ranked in the top 20 veterinary schools in the world by higher education data specialist QS.
Offers to study at some of the country’s top universities are coming in thick and fast for many of the school’s Sixth Formers. The deadline for offers passes at the end of April so the school is sure to be reporting plenty of exciting news over the coming months.
