The latest initiative from the team behind 1,000mph BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car who visited the school last year, pupils were challenged to design and build the fastest model rocket car using only a Styrofoam block, basic wheel mechanisms and lots of engineering imagination.

Another challenge for pupils was to learn how to code a BBC micro-bit to accurately measure the speed of the car.

As the district hub for the Race for the Line Rocket Car Competition, the school welcomed pupils from Bosvigo School, Cusgarne School, Tregolls School, Trewirgie School, Truro School and Sandy Hill Academy for this exciting afternoon getting hands-on with engineering.

With the help of expert rocketeers from Devon and Cornwall Army, there were plenty of thrills and spills to rival the excitement of a day at the races.

The Bloodhound Project is a global engineering adventure, using a 1,000mph world land speed record attempt to inspire the next generation to enjoy, explore and get involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
