Amongst the crowd were best friends who hadn’t seen each other for 25 years and mothers whose daughters have followed in their footsteps to Truro High – all past pupils at the award-winning independent school.
After meeting over coffee and catching up with former classmates, the Old Girls joined present pupils for regular classes in which they got a chance to brush up on their Maths, Spanish, History and Physics. There was even the opportunity to try out some new subjects with A level Psychology and Business Studies on offer.
Judith Mott, a Truro High pupil from 1952 – 1960, found her Business Studies lesson so enjoyable that she will be returning to offer her entrepreneurial expertise to our Sixth Form pupils.
“Our Business Studies session was thoroughly enjoyable, a real insight. I’ve already offered to attend the occasional lesson to help out the girls with particular projects they may have.”
Rebecca Thomas, who attended the school for 1980 – 1991, was overwhelmed at being reunited with friends she hadn’t seen for 25 years.
“It’s been amazing to catch up with people who I haven’t seen for so long, I actually cried when my best friend from school walked into the room this morning. It’s been wonderful to catch up and have experience the fantastic education my daughter is now having here.”
Rebecca’s daughter Tiana has been a Truro High pupil since 2013 and is looking forward to creating more wonderful memories as she joins the Senior School in September.
After their lessons the Old Girls gathered in the dining hall for a school lunch, a meal quite different from – and a huge improvement on – those many were describing from their own experiences.
Marianne Inskip, who runs the Old Girls’ Association database, said: “I’ve become a Truro High pupil at the Old Girls’ Back to School Day for the last 4 years and I will definitely be coming again. It’s been incredibly special to see friends, many of whom have seen each other since their schooldays, catching up and swapping memories. So many of the Old Girls like to keep in touch with the school and days like this give us the perfect opportunity to experience first-hand what has changed since we were last here and maybe even learn something new.”
