Truro High Prep student Daisy Chapman, Prep 6, a member of Truro Tennis Club, has been presented with the James Webster Memorial Trophy for her outstanding contribution to junior tennis in Cornwall.

The Truro High Prep School student received the trophy for her outstanding success at national level.

Daisy said: “Playing at international level makes me feel like a proper tennis player now I’m out on the big circuit. You meet girls from all over the world who share the same passion as you.

“My training is now very intensive. It’s become a lot more athletic and I’ve had to work really hard on my technique.

“I’m really looking forward to Wimbledon. I can’t wait to get the chance to play on the grass courts professionally.”

Daisy competed in her first international event last month: the European Junior Tour held in Paris. She currently ranks at third in the country for junior tennis.

Daisy reached the semi-finals in three regional events as well.

Her mum Sara said: “Daisy has a true passion for tennis. I’m extremely proud of how hard she works in training and how super-organised she has become with balancing sport with school work.

“We’re really looking forward to the upcoming summer season and obviously hoping that Daisy, representing Truro High School will make it to Wimbledon!”

Daisy will be competing in the Road to Wimbledon competition through Truro High School this summer season.

This is a nationwide event which is open to tennis players in Years 7, 8 and 9. They do not need a ranking, but mustn’t have a ranking higher than 7.1.
