Aspiring Medics – Work Experience & the Medical Community

“Standards for applying to study medicine are incredibly high so we are keen to create an environment where our pupils have the opportunity to gain unique medical experience and get a real feel for what the profession will ask of them. By offering the chance to become part of a medical family of specialists, academics and leading professionals, we aim to inspire and fully prepare our young women to fulfil their dreams of becoming the next generation of medics.”

Truro High Aspiring Medics are offered a huge range of work experience placements, hands-on workshops and contact with experts in their field.

  • We will assist our medical and dentistry students in gaining invaluable experience of life in hospital as well as exploring other areas to suit their interests from dental technology to elderly care.
  • Our veterinary students will work with our staff to arrange a varied programme to broaden their personal knowledge such as experience with farm vets, zoo keepers and aquatic specialists.
  • Our programme of evening lectures will provide an opportunity for those medics already linked to our school community to join us and share their knowledge and expertise over the months and years to come.
  • Recent lectures and hands-on workshops with experts in their fields have included a specialist lecture with Former Heart-Tsar Sir Roger Boyle, a Q&A with experienced Veterinary Surgeon Dr Marvin Firth, a seminar on humanity in medicine with Dr Katharine Stephens GP to name but a few.
