Truro High entrepreneurs’ companies named most eco-friendly, innovative and financially sound at this year’s Young Enterprise Awards Finals
The school entered two teams – Kernow Wax Wraps and Simply Stitched – who won the sustainability, financial management and innovation awards at the Cornwall Young Enterprise Finals.
The finals of the competition saw the girls heading to Truro County Hall to submit their company reports and pitch to some of the county’s leading business experts.
The teams have been working hard alongside English teacher, Mrs Jo House, and Business Studies teacher, Mr Tom Elliott, throughout the year and both were incredibly impressed by their performances.
Mr Eliott said: “Simply Stitched have developed fashionable and reliable hair scrunchies using designer materials and demonstrated that they have a good eye for managing the books with some excellent work on their profit analysis and monitoring their costs. This especially impressed the judges with their variety of materials that they are using.”
The team’s bespoke hair accessories have proven a big hit over the course of the year – their Liberty print range sold out in record time when the girls set up shop at the school Christmas Market and they’ve have had many students placing pre-orders as well.
Kernow Wax Wraps headed home with their heads held high as they were crowned winners of the Innovation and Sustainability awards.
Mr Eliott said: “The team were focussed on providing an alternative to cling film produce cloth wax wraps to prevent even more plastic entering our oceans. They have just managed to perfect the perfect recipe for the wax coating and impressed the judges with their approach and resilience so much that they sold out of all their products!”
