Swimming success for Truro High School

Eight girls from Truro High Prep School have won the first round of the Cornwall School Games qualifying swimming gala.

Competing against pupils from five other Truro-based schools at Truro Leisure Centre, the Year 5 and 6 teams both came first in their respective age groups – with all the girls being placed first, second or third in all the races and first in the freestyle relays.

Individual gold medals went to Izzie Leigh, 9, from Chacewater, who won the butterfly event and Katie Day, 9, from Breage, who won the backstroke. Other members of the victorious Year 5 team were Lucy Day, 9, from Breage and Eve, 10, from Rock. The winning Year 6 team were Hannah Stephens, 10, from St Agnes, Charlotte Drew, 10, from Truro, Lottie Black, 10, from St Austell and Issy Carr, 11, from Penzance.

“All the girls who took part swam brilliantly against some very fierce competition,” said Truro High Prep School Headmistress Alison Miller. “I’m very proud of them and I know the rest of the school is too.”
