Recital Showcases Musical Talent

Eight Truro High students have given stunning individual performances at a music recital held at the school.

All the performers were at either Grade 7 or 8 level and, playing to an audience of parents, teachers and friends, they all displayed a talent and confidence well beyond their years.

The evening began with Emmeline Downer, 17, from Mevagissey, playing “La Cathedrale Engloutie’ by Debussy. Emmeline has recently passed her Grade 8 piano with distinction and is working towards her diploma. She has also achieved Grade 8 on the flugel horn.

Georgina Rowe, 16, from Hayle, sang Bernstein and Handel songs, Maddie Wilshire, 15, from Redruth played the saxophone, Isabel Westlake, 16, from Truro, played the clarinet, Lauren Bose, 16, from Truro, played the violin, Georgina May, 16, from the Roseland sang, Gabby Kurdyla, 17, from Falmouth, played the tenor saxophone and Flossie Martin, 16, from Blackwater played the violin.

“The standard of performance was incredibly high,” said Truro High Headmistress Caroline Pascoe. “It didn’t feel as if we were listening to pupils but rather to professional musicians. I’m very proud of everything they’ve achieved.”

The recital was compered by music teacher Rob Norman.
