Jordanna earns first England Athletics vest

One of Truro High School's top athletes, Jordanna Morrish, has earned a position on the England Schools' Athletics Team after an outstanding performance at the English Schools Amateur Athletics Championships last week.

Jordanna, 14, came second in the under 15s multi-skills event at the championships held at Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday.

Battling through appalling weather, the Redruth teenager came joint first in the high-jump, 5th in the hurdles, 6th in the long jump and put in a creditable performance in the shot put. Jordanna was in 4th position overall as the girls prepared for the final discipline, the 800m.

To win an England vest ,Jordanna had to finish in the top four. To achieve that she knew her race time would have to be at least 3 seconds faster than the girls in 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions.

“She knew what she had to do and she ran for her life – coming second in her heat and moving up the leader board to finish in 2nd position overall,” said proud dad, Nigel Morrish.

Jordanna’s overall score was a personal best of 3045 points. She will now represent her country in the Schools International Athletics Board Home Countries International due to be held in Glasgow in December.

Caroline Pascoe, Truro High School’s Headmistress and a former British Olympian, said:

“Jordanna had a brilliant weekend and we are extremely proud of her. Competing for her country is an honour she deserves – not just because of her hard work but also her excellent attitude to all aspects of life. We will all be offering our support as she prepares for her next big competition in December.”
