Fencing star’s success wins her positions on two National squads

Truro High School's international fencing star, Teresa Norejko, has done so well in recent competitions that she has secured her place on both the British and Welsh national squads.

Teresa, a 16-year-old sixth form student who boards at the top-rated girls’ school, began the month by winning the prestigious Sevenoaks under 17 Great British qualifier. That success ensured her selection onto the British team for competitions in Germany and London in December and January respectively.

After the event Teresa, who was competing for Truro Fencing Club at the competition, said: “Obviously I was delighted to win the event but also chuffed that Truro fencers won 2nd and 3rd positions too.”

The weekend after her Sevenoaks success Teresa travelled to Cardiff for the Welsh Open competition where she competed as an adult. She finished 19th overall which meant she was selected to represent Wales at international events in France and Italy early next year.

This month Teresa will be competing as part of the GB under 20 squad at events in Germany and Spain as well as for the GB under 17 squad at another event in Germany.

Proud mum, Maria Norejko said: “Teresa could not maintain this level of fencing without lots of help from boarding house staff, teachers and coaches. We are all very grateful for the support.”

Truro High School Headmistress and former British Olympian, Caroline Pascoe, said: “Teresa’s dedication to her sport is an example to us all. We are always pleased to do everything possible to support her so she can continue to succeed – not just at fencing but also with her A-level studies.”
