Decorated teacher was inspired by her Truro High School days

Last year Truro High School Old Girl, Anne Bull, won the title Head Teacher of the Year in a Primary School, this year she has been decorated with an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in addition to receiving an honorary doctorate from Bath Spa University - all a result of her dedication and outstanding performance.

Described as dynamic and inspirational with a passion for the arts, Anne (nee Williamson) said she was inspired by staff at the Truro based school where she was a pupil in the late 50s and early 60s.

Anne is currently the head teacher of Weston All Saints Primary School, Bath, a school she has led for more than 20 years. In that time she has tripled its size and secured an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted grade. During her years in the profession she has helped to nurture generations of young minds.

Her dedication to educating and inspiring children doesn’t stop at the school gates. Believing strongly that involvement in the arts is an essential part of education, Anne plays a leading role in many extracurricular arts-based clubs and events for children, including founding the Bath Primary Arts Festival.

Anne believes the seeds of her success were sown at Truro High School where she was the youngest ever boarder when she joined in 1956, aged six.

She said: “It was a lovely time. I have such happy memories. The teaching was inspirational, I particularly loved history and English and the matron of Rashleigh House started my lifelong love of books and reading and, even in those early days, I knew I wanted to be a teacher myself.”

Caroline Pascoe, Headmistress of Truro High, said she was delighted to hear about Anne Bull’s accolades.

“She is clearly a remarkable woman who has achieved a huge amount,” she said. “I’m personally very proud that she attributes some of that success to the education she got here.”
