Creativity at all ages on show at Truro High Summer Exhibition
The two-day exhibition showcased a stunning portfolio of work which has been created by pupils throughout the year ranging from high concept installation photography to the revolutionary cry of Les Miserables.
For the first time, work created by pupils as young as 4-years-old was displayed in Truro High’s art department alongside pieces made by the school’s brightest and best young creatives.
“From our very youngest pupils to girls heading off to the country’s top art colleges, the creativity and imagination of our artists and designers never ceases to amaze me,” said Head of Creative and Performing Arts, Mrs Judith Tutin. “Inspiration often comes from the most unlikely of places so we believe in creating an environment where girls of all ages are given the freedom to try something new, let their imaginations run wild and create some spectacular artwork along the way.”
Pieces included life-sized camera-less photography, inventive mixed-media portraits, one-of-a-kind ceramics and a collection of dance ensembles created for the school’s production of Arthur Miller’s seminal classic ‘The Crucible’. The Religious Philosophy room was also transformed for the exhibition showcasing a stunning cross-curricular piece depicting scenes from the life of Christ in stained glass effect.
The exhibition provided the final chance to catch a glimpse of the work created by our Upper Sixth pupils including Year 13 fledgling artist Rebe Winn. Rebe’s impressive portfolio has won plaudits over her time at the school and was even featured in the ‘Future Now’ Exhibition at the Tate Modern last summer.
Work displayed in the exhibition also won top-level awards at last month’s CreatEd Exhibition hosted by Falmouth University. Against nearly 20 schools and colleges from across the county, Truro High pupils celebrated their best year yet at the countywide awards scooped two top-level awards and eleven honorary commendations. This level of success was not matched by any other institution in the competition.
