Artsmark Award at School Open Morning

Truro High School for Girls has been formally awarded Artsmark status. The award certificate was presented to Headmistress Caroline Pascoe by James Green, Director of Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange in front of pupils, parents, staff and visitors at the end of the school's recent Open Morning.

Artsmark status is awarded by the Arts Council England to schools that have demonstrated the importance of art, craft, design, dance, drama and music in their curriculum. Criteria includes providing evidence of progression opportunities for anyone wishing to develop their skills further.

“It’s the first time I’ve visited Truro High but the school’s commitment to the arts is very obvious,” said James Green. “This award was introduced to recognise the transformative effect that all forms of art can have in education and I congratulate all the teachers involved in achieving such a prestigious benchmark.”

Visitors to the Open Morning were able to see lessons in action, take tours and chat to pupils and staff. Anyone interested in having a look around or booking a taster day should contact registrar Frances Ellison on 01872 242904.
