NEW DATE CONFIRMED - Truro High Aspiring Medics hosts Operating Theatre Live @ Main Hall | England | United Kingdom

We are delighted to announce that Operating Theatre Live has announced Saturday 23 March as the rescheduled date for their interactive medical workshop. If you haven’t reserved your spot already, places are still available for the workshop. Click here to book your tickets today https://bit.ly/2SuxVEt

If you are a Truro High School student who has already booked a place and is unable to attend the rescheduled date, please email events@trurohigh.co.uk.

Students from other schools should contact Operating Theatre Live directly by calling 01827 230610 Ext 202 or email publicevents@operatingtheatrelive.co.uk.

This year’s programme is bigger and better than ever before with a host of new workshops, never yet presented in the county. The one-day workshop will take place at Truro High School for Girls and will give delegates the chance to follow an in-depth medical course, set in a ‘mobile operating theatre’.

The workshop is open to all those from Year 10 – Year 13. It provides the perfect broad base for those studying sciences at GCSE and is also ideal for those A Level students considering applying for university to study medicine, dentistry, health courses or the biosciences.

Do you have what it takes to be an emergency doctor? The brand-new Trauma and Amputation component of the course is an optional session that can be booked in addition to the main event and is a popular part of the programme. The extension workshop will run from 5-8pm on Saturday 23 March. A meal will be provided between the two sessions.

Year 10 & 12 Work Experience week

All pupils are expected to complete a week of work experience in the summer term of Years 10 and 12.

A work placement is an opportunity to spend a period of time outside the classroom, learning about a particular job or area of work. This helps pupils decide what they want to do for a career and also develops relevant skills and attitudes.

Specifically, work experience enables students to:

  • discover more about jobs they are interested in
  • learn how to deal with people, work in a team, use office equipment and IT packages
  • talk to other employees and find out about what they do
  • include details about their placement on their UCAS form, CV and job applications

There is a lot of competition for some placements so students should think about planning what they would like to do in advance.  If they have any contacts in a particular area of work that interests them, they may wish to explore these at the beginning of Years 10 and 12. Our Work Experience coordinator at school will guide them through the process.
