Our PTA is a wonderful network of parents who come together regularly to support the school, plan activities and events for the girls and to raise funds for specific projects.
The main PTA committee meet once a month during term time to plan and organise the various activities. Everyone is welcome and meetings are held in the lounge of Rashleigh Boarding House at the start of the school day, so you can at least drop in for a coffee even if you can’t stay for the whole meeting. The meetings are informal and welcoming. Details of forthcoming meetings are included in the weekly High Life e-newsletter and on the THS website diary, so you can always stay up-to-date.
Our Class Reps system enables parents who are new to the school to link up with someone who knows the ropes of how things work at school and can offer helpful advice and support. Class Reps often organise events or activities which get parents and girls together and they act as a go-between for communicating with the PTA and School.
The PTA are very active in supporting school events such as the Dance Show, Lent Concert, the School Play, Sports Day and of course, the Spring Ball. We usually run a bar, provide hot drinks and snacks and run raffles at these events and act as hosts to ensure parents really enjoy their visits to School.
We also organise a number of fund raising events, our biggest being the annual Christmas Market. While the Spring Ball is for the whole school, the PTA help to organise Prep’s very own Junior Disco in the marquee so all the girls get to join in the fun. The funds we raise are then allocated to particular projects which benefit the girls. Over the last couple of years we have raised over £30,000 for the Court Gardens Development. The Children’s playground has been installed and the prep girls are really enjoying it. The upper garden is due to be planted in 2019.
Fun events, such as the summer Quiznic or the Family Fun Games event are designed to get girls and parents together purely for enjoyment with no particular outcome other than to have fun and get to know each other a bit better.
Parents’ Forums are held regularly and often reflect topical issues like exam revision, drugs and alcohol, social media and other forms of communication, body image, emergency First Aid, preparing a CV and interview techniques. Popular topics are re-run at a later date and at a different time (in the afternoon), to enable a different group of parents to access them.
During the summer months while the weather is good, the PTA’s Friday ice cream stall is a popular initiative with parents and girls at the end of the school week.
The PTA also head up the School’s ‘easyfundraising’ initiative whereby you can raise funds for the School whenever you purchase something online from hundreds of your favourite retailers. We have raised over £1000 in the 2 years since it started. Now that really is money for nothing!
