Aspiring – Greenpower & Motorsport UK

Truro High is the only school in the country to be recognised as an official motorsport club by Motorsport UK - a unique opportunity for budding engineers to work in motorsport at an international level whilst at school.

A first in UK automotive history, Motorsport UK invited us to apply due to our excellent reputation for engineering.  Motorsport UK is the national membership organisation and governing body for four-wheel motorsport in the UK, representing competitors, volunteers, clubs and fans.

As an official club, the school takes part in events organised by other recognised clubs and invite these top-level organisations to its own events as well. This includes students being able to train as race marshals. This will enable them to work at races all over the world and even go all the way to operating track-side at international Formula 1 events.

The school’s Greenpower Engineering Project offers students the chance to design, build and race their own solar-powered race cars. Girls are encouraged to lead from the front, using their own ideas with the support of motorsport experts.

Truro High currently has 5 cars in the Senior School and 3 in the Prep School. The team takes part in local events as well as competing at world-famous race tracks, including Goodwood and Silverstone.

The school has a large number of established and dedicated supporters in the world of Motorsport. These include F1 performance engineer, Cristiana Pace, the Chairman of Motorsport UK, David Richards and former McLaren and Williams engineer, James Robinson. James can be found at almost every race supporting and encouraging our students in the pits.

Due to their hard work and dedication in the Greenpower team, many of our students are invited to undertake work experience with local engineering companies as well as Williams F1.
