| Now, having just been offered a place at the Royal College of Music - following scholarship offers from both the Welsh Conservatoire and the Northern College of Music - what started as a hobby looks likely to become a full-time occupation.
The eighteen year old, who comes from Chacewater, has chosen to accept the highly prestigious Royal College of Music place. Her principal instrument will be the recorder, and her second will be the clarinet.
‘I’m really excited – although it still seems a bit surreal,’ she said. ‘Since September 2004, I’ve been travelling up to the RCM’s junior department every Saturday for a clarinet lesson with Anthony Bailey. I’ve always hoped that I’d be able to study there full-time – now I can. It’s a dream come true!’
A well-known competitor at Camborne and Truro music festivals, Beth would like to continue performing in the future.
‘She’s an outstanding musician who has a very promising musical future ahead of her,’ said Frances Eagar, Director of Music at Truro High School. ‘She’s worked extremely hard to achieve this success and we’re all very proud of her.’
Beth has been a pupil at Truro High School for the last eleven years.
