| The overall A* to C pass rate for Truro High School GCSE students this year was 94% with 55% of grades being either A* or A.
Delighted headmaster, Michael McDowell, was at the school in Falmouth Road, Truro, on Thursday morning to congratulate the girls, every single one of whom achieved the magic-five passes necessary for further education – although the majority passed either 10 or 11 exams.
He said: “These results are a tribute to the girls’ dedication and the way in which they buckled down to the task. Once again the girls responded positively to expert teaching.
“As far as the extra commendations are concerned I am extremely pleased. Truro High pupils have received them before, but this is the first time we have had so many at the same time. And to have 100% pass rate in eight subjects – Maths, Chemistry, English Literature, History, Latin, Music, PE and Religious Education – speaks for itself.”
Robyn Beresford achieved a commendation for English Literature and A* for all eleven exams she took. She said she can’t wait to start her A level courses in the school sixth form.
“I am so happy, but this is a great school, it has a family atmosphere and all the teachers and students are really encouraging,” said Robyn.
Robyn’s mum, Lesley, was as delighted as her daughter. She said: “She does work hard but this is such an excellent school I couldn’t have wished for anything better.”
Many parents, happy and relieved with their daughters’ exam results were keen to congratulate Mr McDowell as well as their children.
Ivor Kneller’s daughter, Sophie, achieved an A*, six As and four Bs. Shaking Mr McDowell’s hand he said: “This school did exactly what it said on the tin. We are very very pleased. It was a wise investment.”
Jenna Townend(ok) was commended for her English Literature exam and also achieved eight A* and two A grades.
Jenna’s mum, Lesley, was quick to praise the staff at Truro High School. She said: “Each pupil has so much individual encouragement and preparation to maximise their potential and I know it will continue in the sixth form.”
Laura Stacey worried her friends by bursting into tears when she opened her results envelope, but they needn’t have been concerned, she was just delighted to have gained eight A* and three A grades.
Laura said: “I was so worried, but this is fantastic, I’m so relieved. I’m going to do Biology, Chemistry, Spanish and Latin in the sixth form. Then I can either be a dentist or use my languages.”
