Our School : Sixth Form

We are incredibly proud of our Truro High Sixth Formers. They leave the school as polite, articulate and confident young women ready to take on the wider world and fully prepared to embrace all of life's opportunities.

Truro High Sixth Formers are always "up for a challenge" and, being in a single-sex environment, they develop an increased sense of self-confidence and academic potential. Some wonder if a smaller environment won't prepare our Sixth Formers well enough for the bustle of university life and 200-seater lecture halls. Well, if you speak to our Old Girls (many of whom pop in for lunch before university begins each term) they will tell you - every time - that perhaps the main thing Truro High Sixth Form did, above everything else, was provide a forum to speak, to be listened to, and to voice an opinion.....regularly. And, when the Professor asks for those opinions in the lecture hall, or in a tutorial, it is our Sixth Form girls who aren't afraid to get the discussion going and to lead the way.

The Sixth Form programme at Truro High is designed to help its students develop the new skills needed to cope successfully with work at ‘A' level and then at university. Not only do they study for A levels but alongside these they will complete an Extended Project Qualification. This provides UCAS points towards university application and provides Admissions Tutors with tangible proof of independent research and presentation skills.

Sixth Formers have greater autonomy and more space to organise their own studies, interests and activities. They are encouraged to balance academic work with the large and exciting range of extra-curricular activities and we are proud of the positive impact our Sixth Formers have on the rest of the school.

One of our key strengths is the wide variety of opportunities on offer which will equip young women to succeed in a rapidly-changing world. They will be encouraged to aspire to and then reach your highest level of academic achievement and our effective tutorial system makes sure they get the personalised attention they deserve.

If you think that our Sixth Form is just ‘more of the same' - same rules, same expectations, same lifestyle as school - then, think again. Truro High Sixth Form provides a fresh new approach to learning. Yes, there is building on GCSE successes but now starts preparation for the next step towards Higher Education and employment. Why not arrange for your daughter to spend a day as a Sixth Former to see for herself?

And if funding two years of study is tricky then consider our wide range of scholarships and the means-tested Bursary scheme which can enable the very best Sixth Form study.
