Our School : Nursery

Our Nursery welcomes both boys and girls from age 3 years but is happy to consider entry during the term before the 3rd birthday by mutual agreement and subject to staffing ratios.
Pupils attend Morning (8.30am- 12.45pm), Afternoon (12.45-3.15pm) or All Day sessions (8.30am-3.15pm) and there is also an after school club run by Schools Out which will look after your child until 6pm if needs be. We accept Government vouchers for the term after your child turns 3 years old but please note that, whilst helping considerably, these will not cover full fees.
We take a maximum of 20 children per session and work towards the Foundation Stage Curriculum. Our activities are designed to promote the following six areas of learning:
personal, social and emotional development
communication, language and literacy
mathematical development
knowledge and understanding of the world
physical development
creative development
Set in its own spacious grounds, the purpose-built Nursery has plenty to keep inquisitive youngsters happy. There are inside and outside play areas with lots of play equipment, pretend kitchens, a storytelling room, enough paper and paint to keep any would-be artist occupied, writing materials, a computer, electronic equipment and programmable toys. As well as learning letters and numbers in a fun, creative way, the children also have ballet lessons and swimming and PE lessons with senior school specialists. Our Nursery children quickly get to grips with hand/eye coordination, balance and the importance of exercise in our daily lives! As well as taking advantage of all the sports facilities the 'big school' has to offer, the Nursery children enjoy healthy snacks in the Nursery and a delicious lunch in the main school dining room. Some of our older Prep School girls are always on hand with the teachers to help your child choose their lunch, carry it on the tray, cut it up and then clear away.
We have just introduced 'Music Makers' which incorporates musical instruments, dance and singing in the session. The High School is well known for its music and now even our youngest members of our community will have the opportunity to explore sound and rhythm. On Thursday mornings we take our learning outside to our fantastic outdoor area which offers creativity and critical thinking in our Little Learners.
An awareness of the environment and others in our community are also encouraged. Our children have recently visited a sheep farm, National Trust gardens, old peoples' home, fire station and the beach.
Ofsted inspected the Nursery in October 2008 and rated the quality and standards of education, facilities and management as 'Outstanding' in every area.
Why not come and enjoy a 'Stay and Play' Session? In the Summer Term 2012 they will take place on Friday 27 April, Friday 11 May, Friday 25 May and Friday 22 June from 1.30-3pm. They allow prospective mummys/daddys and their youngster to meet the children and staff and enjoy our fantastic facilities.
