19 December 2011 / HIGH SCHOOL'S SPORTING HIGH FLYERS

Millie is a year 11 pupil, balancing an extraordinary talent for netball with GCSE studies. Her performance this term playing at county and regional level has tipped her to be selected for the England team when trials are held in March.

Her sporting commitments mean she is part of the National Talent League, requiring fortnightly trips to Bath, she is joint captain of the regional Under 16 team, plays for the county, her school and weekly in the Truro Regional League team the Saints.

Beth Thomas is a High School Sixth Form student who plays football for the Cornwall Under 18s squad and is the top scorer in the regional league playing for Truro City Ladies.

Beth's skills were first noticed when, aged 11, she captained the Isles of Scilly Year Six girls football team to third place in the Cornwall Youth Games. She was scouted and asked to join the Cornwall Under 12s team, which meant travelling by helicopter from her home, on the Scillies, to the mainland every other weekend during the football season. During those trips Truro High School invited her to stay at its boarding house. She eventually joined the school as a boarding pupil.

During her career Beth has also been selected for the Regional Talent Camp organised by England National Coaches.

High School Headmistress and former British Olympian, Caroline Pascoe, said: "Millie and Beth are competing at extremely high levels, which adds to the pressure of their GCSE and A level studies respectively, but we are very happy to ensure they have the extra support needed. The whole school is very proud of their achievements."
