16 February 2012 / HIGH SCHOOL CALENDAR RAISES FUNDS FOR CHILDREN'S CANCER CHARITY

Spurred on by a desire to support a fellow Year 9 student currently undergoing treatment for cancer, a whopping £1381 was raised by selling a school calendar depicting life around the school. A further £494 was raised by the Prep School at their Autumn Concert, Christmas Raffle and auction for Justin Bieber goodies including a life-size cut-out and £25 was raised by three girls selling homemade cards and sparkly hand gel.

Poppy Ellison in the Upper Sixth coordinated the production and sales of the calendar, the idea of Phoebe Downie in Year 8.

Announcing the grand total at assembly, Poppy said: "CLIC Sargent is an incredible charity. Not only does it provide nursing care but it supports the whole family. Our friend in Year 9 and her family have been able to use the CLIC "Home from Home" accommodation at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and the best news is we're hoping to welcome her back into school very soon. A brilliant result all round."

Hannah Eustice, a volunteer fundraiser for CLIC, came to assembly to receive the cheque. She said: "It costs £2000 a year to provide clinical, practical, and emotional support for each child diagnosed with cancer. The amount the High School girls have raised is tremendous and we are truly grateful."

Truro High's Headmistress, Caroline Pascoe, was delighted with the girls' fundraising. She said: "I can always count on the girls to support each other and this fundraising bears witness to that. Well done to all involved."
