Baroness Dean, who lives in Falmouth, was visiting as part of the 'Peers in Schools' programme which has been running across the UK since 2007 and has so far involved around 30,000 young people. Her talk consisted of a presentation followed by a question and answer session with the students who, amongst other things, wanted to know if, as a former trade union leader, she agreed with the public sector strike, whether she thought women should be appointed to posts on the basis of their gender and whether she believed the House of Lords could step in to save the economy.

"It was a really interesting session which everyone enjoyed," said Truro High Headmistress Caroline Pascoe. "As you would expect, Baroness Dean is an excellent speaker who taught us all a thing or two about the way Parliament works."
