26 August 2011 / SMILES ALL ROUND AT TRURO HIGH SCHOOL

Kelly Bowden, from Newquay, achieved 12 A*s - including one in Astronomy which she studied for one hour a week at lunchtimes with Head of Science Mark Patchett.

"I was really interested in the subject and asked Mr Patchett if he could teach me," said Kelly. "I loved doing it and the work experience week I spent at the Roseland Observatory helped me a lot too. I can't believe I got A*s for everything. It's amazing. I'm so happy and relieved."

Anna Phillips, from Truro, scored 11 A*s and was similarly overwhelmed. She wants to study medicine and is staying at the school to do A Levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

"I was really nervous about getting my results and now I've got them I just want to give all my teachers a hug because it's all down to them," she said.

Lauren Bose, from Truro, achieved 9A* and 2As and, like Anna, wants to study medicine. As well as taking A Levels in Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, however, she will also be doing Music because, as one of the school's most talented musicians, she excels at violin and piano.

Outstanding sportswoman Lottie Richardson, from Falmouth, plays netball for England and spends most weekends away training. Dedication to the sport didn't stop her from getting 2As, 6Bs and 3Cs though - much to her Mum's Sue's delight.

"We were involved in a car accident on the way here so instead of being early we were nearly an hour late," she said. "It didn't do much to calm our nerves but we made it, Lottie has done very well and we couldn't be more proud."

Kitty Hardman, from Helston, achieved 1 A*, 5As and 2Bs.

"I want to do fashion or languages and am really relieved and pleased," she said.

Georgina Rowe, from Gwinear near Hayle, who got 2 As and 9Bs, brought her 14 week old English Springer Spaniel puppy Milly along to celebrate.

"I got her for my 16th birthday and wanted her to share all this," she said. "We're both very happy."

There were 100% A*-C pass rates in 15 subjects: Astronomy, Biology, English Literature, English Language, Food, German, ICT, Latin, Maths, Additional Maths, Music, Double Award PE, Religious Philosophy, Theatre Studies and Textiles.

"The girls have worked very hard and deserve their success - as do their teachers who have helped and supported them so much," said Headmistress Caroline Pascoe. "As a school our aim is bring out the best in each and every one of our students and, judging by the smiles today, I think we're succeeding."
