Truro High School for Girls has revealed that, after detailed research and much consideration, it is joining the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST) group of schools signalling the launch of a new five year Strategic Plan that sets out ambitious goals for the coming years.
The move has been welcomed by both the Bishop of Truro, The Rt. Revd. Tim Thornton, who is himself President of the Board of Truro High School’s Governors, and Rev. Steve Wild, Chair of Cornwall Methodist District and President of the Methodist Conference who have issued a joint statement saying: “We welcome the news that the High School is joining MIST. This is a good move for the High School and for education in general in Truro.”
They continued: “We are both delighted that such an ecumenical venture is possible and see this as entirely in line with the Ecumenical Declaration of Intent we signed a couple of years ago and also with the Covenant the Church of England and the Methodist church have been in together for some years.”
The move places Truro High School in a very strong position to achieve its ambitious plans for the future with MIST’s support ensuring that it remains financially secure; facilitating longer term strategic development and enabling the School to continue to deliver the highest standards of girls-only education for the pupils.
Headmaster, Dr Glenn Moodie, said: “Joining MIST will help the School secure a position of even greater strength. The School, its pupils and staff will gain significantly from being a part of a nationwide group of schools, all with excellent reputations in their local areas. Teachers and support staff will benefit from sharing of expertise as well as accessing a greater pool for professional development. There will also be significant cost efficiencies, through greater purchasing power; shared administration fees and insurances the School will see considerable benefit across the board.”
The announcement comes at the end of an exciting few months for the School which have seen it awarded a gold award by the Good Schools Guide and listed in the Telegraph’s Top 200 Independent Schools in Britain for GCSE results – the highest ranking achieved by an independent school in Cornwall.
