Admissions : International Students
International Students - although not large in number - play a very important part in the life of Truro High School. It's so good to meet, study and (for boarders) live with those who come from different corners of the world. It can be a terrifying thought - moving, often half way around the world, to a new place, new school, full of new people. We can promise you a HUGE welcome though and your confidence will grow steadily, day by day, until you really do regard us as your 'second' family.
We organise an airport pick up from (usually) London Heathrow the day before each term starts and then return the girls to the airport on the last day of term. The charge for this service is £50 per student per journey. We do ask that parents book flights that arrive/depart within certain 'time windows', so please check first before booking your flights. Some girls prefer to travel down as a group by train and the Head Boarding Student is happy to advise. Please contact the school (admin@trurohigh.co.uk) for her contact details.
Girls come to us for different lengths of time - some for weeks, others for years - but all of them will tell you that it is the friendliness of the school and the very supportive staff which make all the difference. Yes, your workload will be heavy. After all, you're having to study in a foreign language but we will be patient (and so must you!) and with hard work you will quickly see a big difference. One of the reasons why we don't accept large numbers of international students from any one country is because you need to 'live' in English - by studying, playing and even perhaps dreaming in English! You will find there are lots of things to do which form part of a normal day at school. Some of these wouldn't be included in your school back at home but here you have the opportunity to not only really progress in your academic work but to learn lots of new skills too. Perhaps you might like a go at salsa dancing, or Ten Tors, or surf-rowing or...............so much more.
You'll live in either Dalvenie or Rashleigh Boarding House. The food is great, the staff are supportive and caring and the girls are great fun, too. It's school Monday-Friday but at the weekends there's an organised activity on either Saturday or Sunday and then time to 'chill' on the other day.
School closes for half-term holidays so your UK guardian will need to organise somewhere for you to stay. Some girls stay with host families close by which means they can still see their school friends but also get a real feel for life in an English family.
So, whether you want to come for a few weeks, a few years or, from September 2012, onto our 1-year pre IB/A level course, ask your parent or guardian to get in touch. You won't regret it!
