Academic : English as a Second Language

International students study towards a pass at ‘First Certificate English' and GCSE English in Year 11. When girls first join the school they are assessed and EFL lessons scheduled to provide support at the correct level.

In general, girls will receive 2-3 hours tuition per week for their first year. These are usually group lessons but paired and individual lessons can be arranged if deemed appropriate. After this, and depending on progress made, this will be reduced to 1 hour tuition for the second academic year at Truro High School. These lessons are a condition of acceptance and attendance is compulsory.

EFL tuition is charged at £10 per hour for group lessons, £18 per hour for paired lessons and £30 per hour for individual tuition (2011-2012). The EFL teachers are all highly qualified and experienced and very quickly establish a good rapport with our overseas girls.
